Meet Dr. Hernandez

John D. Hernandez, MD was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The University of Texas in Austin with a B.A. in Biology. He attended medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he also completed his first medical residency and specialized in Internal Medicine. From there, Dr. Hernandez completed a second medical residency in Emergency Medicine at The University Hospital of Jacksonville, in Florida, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. Hernandez is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has over 28 years of clinical experience. During the past 15 years, he has focused on and specialized in Integrative Medicine.

Early in his career, Dr. Hernandez began exploring the health benefits of nutrition, stress reduction and lifestyle changes as a means of enhancing health and well-being. Later, while serving as Medical Director for a multi-physician primary care group, Dr. Hernandez came to realize the significant health benefits that these integrative approaches were having with his patients.

Seeing the need for a more integrative approach to medicine, Dr. Hernandez founded The Center for Health & Integrative Medicine in 1997. His advanced training and medical background with prescription medications, combined with his extensive knowledge and expertise with nutrition, supplementation, and other natural therapies allows Dr. Hernandez to offer patients a truly integrative approach to health. By focusing on identifying and solving the root causes of illness, Dr. Hernandez has helped many patients find real solutions to their health challenges and guide them towards optimal health.

Dr. Hernandez has maintained an interest in teaching the public, as well as health professionals.  He has spoken both at the local and national levels to physicians, nutritionists, other healthcare practitioners, as well as to public audiences. Dr. Hernandez was a featured regular television guest regarding Integrative Medicine on the “San Antonio Living Show”. He was also a popular radio show host on his own radio program “It’s Your Health” and a frequent radio guest on numerous other radio shows. Dr. Hernandez is a well-respected physician, teacher, and speaker.
